My students love this DBQ! This DBQ is focused on Kristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass). I use this in my class as part of an introduction to the Holocaust in World War II. There is a background essay, and two primary source documents for students to analyze.
At the end I have included a historical fiction activity for extended thinking. I have a passion for creating activities that make students think about what the people involved would have thought. In other words, putting yourself in the shoes of people that experienced what they are learning in history.
I have created this DBQ to hit different Depth of Knowledge levels according to the Webb’s chart. Each question is either a DOK level 1-3 question, with the extension activity being DOK level 4. Each document's questions build levels each question.
The first primary document that students analyze is the order for Kristallnacht given by Nazi SS Gruppenfuehrer Heydrich.
The second primary document that students analyze is a telegram sent to the Secretary of State in Washington describing the events that the author saw.
Each document included has questions and an answer key included. It is ready to print and use immediately!
