Prelude to War and World War II Press Conference
In order for students to understand the complex reasons behind World War II and the impact of the war on the entire planet, they will be conducting a press conference with significant individuals of the WWII era. Each student is assigned a role in this activity. Either as a specific individual or as a member of a SPECIFIC press.
The students research their individual or news agency.
The are expected to take the role of the person or press assigned, play the role throughout the conference and never get out of character.
The lesson can be differentiated based on readiness and interest.
Students with an affinity for WW2 may relish the chance to show their knowledge as a famous general or dictator.
While the members of the press have the same responsibilities, some organizations require higher level thinking. For example a student portraying an American perspective as a writer for Time Magazine, has an easier time than a student expected to represent a reporter for Braunshweiger Bote who may or may not have been sincerely supportive of Hitler.
Student Hand outs and rubrics are provided.
