2) A military themed review of the events leading up to the end of the war in Europe. Students will be asked to identify and explain the importance of events such as D-Day, the Yalta Conference, the Battle of the Bulge, the death of Hitler and more. Students will then step into the role of battle commander and examine war maps for the invasion of France. Students will answer questions about proposed landing sites for the invasion as well as for the actual landing beaches in Normandy. Once completed, students will have a thorough understanding about the events that lead to the Axis surrender in Europe.
This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
2) A detailed answer key to the lesson activity to save you time and help guide student comprehension.
