This PowerPoint deals with the American home front during the war. It covers over four different sections. First, I covered the shift from peace time production to war time production. Also, how the US went about financing the war. Next, we took covered the daily life on the home front. It covered the music, movies, and baseball as well as the victory garden. During this section there are a couple of slides that show propaganda posters not only from the US but from some of the Allied nations as well. This little section I provided some discussion questions about what message do you think they are sending and how do these posters make you feel? I got really good discussions from these couple of slides, similar to the World War I home front power point. After that we covered the role of women during WWII. It covered the benefits and issues women faced during the war. Lastly, we took a look at the role of African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, and the mistreatment of Japanese-Americans during the war. The students really enjoyed this power point and I got a lot of good feed back from students who returned the next few days with stories about their grandparents during the war. This took two class periods to cover, so about 80-85 minutes all together.
