- 1. VOCABULARY/ PREVIEW SHEETS- One of the things I enjoy doing is making sure the students are familiar with the vocab. It is really a fun relaxing day going over some of the difficult vocab for the unit. The preview sheets are used when I am starting any chapter. If it is just one chapter I will have the students pick one of the two sheets and then have the students thumb through the chapter previewing all the information.

-2. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS- WWI discussion questions that are easy to use in class and create a nice discussion either in groups of 2 or individually to do and discuss as a class.

-3. WWI / Tender Teens PPT – Why did the US get involved in the War? This PPT is large but covers all angles of the war. It comes with a sheet to keep the students accountable. There is 46 slides with a slide for the video to be inserted at the end.

- 4. WWI SHORT VIDEO -A fantastic short video that I believe will change students perspectives on WWI as they see the realities of what it meant to be a soldier in WWI. This short film has subtitles and really brings home the message about WWI. ( please insert at the end of the PPT)

- 5. WOODROW WILSON 14 PT- assignment to do in class following the PPT.

This is a one day assignment that students can do by themselves or in groups. It is one of the standards so it is very important to spend some time on this critical document that will lead to much later developments in the world.

-6. LOST BATTALION MOVIE GUIDE/KEY- This is a fantastic movie that is free to show from youtube. I have included a guide and a key for the movie.

LOST BATTALION VIDEO GUIDE

Last 10 minutes of the movie.

-7. WAR HORSE- Wanted to create something that would allow me to keep the students accountable for the movie, but also allow them to watch the movie.

WAR HORSE SAMPLE

Includes: This 15 question worksheet will give you some accountability for the movie while still making the students think about some of the essential questions from the movie.

-8. WORKSHEET- This is an old fashioned worksheet with fill in the black answers about WWI. I have also included the key and as it is a word document you can adjust everything to make t work for you!

-9. WRITING ASSIGNMENT- This is a 5 paragraph essay that will use the paragraph format that I have posted in my store. Each paragraph is 11 sentences and has a very specific format. This assignment will compare / contrast and discuss the consequences of each of these major events.

- 10. WWI Readings- A collection of great readings to be used in class.

- 11. Crash Course- A great guide to go with the Crash Course episode. It is a 6 page handout that really does help the students stay accountable while watching it.

Crash Course 30

Here is what is included in this 6 page download:

1. Note Taking Guide for Students: This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.

2. Summary of the Video: A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.

3. Teacher Notes from the: My 1 page of notes.

4. Vocabulary Section: I have chosen 3 words that would be good to have the students look up. I also have them write each of the words in a sentence.

5. Quiz for students / with answers: There is a 10 question quiz with answers from the episode. It can be taken in class or taken home. I think in class would be better.

6. Blank Template for student created quiz: I decided to add this to every Crash Course guide as it works really well with students.

**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.

- 12. Political cartoon Assignment- Political Cartoon assignment on some things that were happening during the war.

- 13. Stanford University Lesson- Great lesson on the US Involvement from Stanford. Fantastic stuff as this is more of a freebee than anything else.

- 14. Chapter Test / Quizzes- These are my tests and quizzes with keys included.

- 15. BONUS- These are 2 great videos of some real WWI footage that I am including as a bonus.

- 16. Paragraph ideas - I have gone through each unit and have provided some good paragraph prompts to write to for the entire year. I have also included my how to write a paragraph sheet.

- 17. Flipped Classroom Guide - This guide is a great way to teach a PPT/ Keynote. It allows the students to dig into the PPT/ Keynote and discuss with a group and meet with the teacher.

- 18. World War I Notes - These are all of the notes for the chapter. It is good for the teacher to see these prior to teaching the unit.

1. WWII Pre-test to see what the kids know and don't know about the war.

2. Chapter Preview Sheet: This is a great way to have students go through the chapter checking out different things that they observe from the pictures and the headings.

3. Battle Sheet: One of the things I like my students to do is to see the battles fought and realize who fought them and who won. This is considered a HW assignment for them or an in class assignment.

4. GIFT assignment: I love having my students draw when they can. This assignment asks the students to represent the chapters with 60% visuals and 40% words. It is a tough thing to do if you cannot draw however, the students are not judged on their ability to draw.

Gift Assignment Examples

5. PPT for WWII: This is 77 slides and takes about 7 days to complete. I do not go through all of it with my students as it would be just too much lecturing. I start this and do the first couple of slides with them and have them do the rest at home using my website. I do have a 3 page note taking guide that goes with the PPT as well. I have included another version of this PPT as well.

The PPT goes over the following concepts:
1. The 5 main causes of the war.
2. How Hitler came to power.
3. Year by year highlight of events that took place
4. Significant Regiments of the War
5. Response by the different groups involved in the war
6. Technology from the war.
7. I have also included 9 videos that I use to teach this PPT in case you want to embed them.

6. Discussion Questions: A great way for students to discuss the war in class. I like to have them do the questions at home and then get into small groups of 3-4 and have them discuss their answers.

7. WWII from Space: Probably the best WWII video that I show. It takes 2 days and is phenomenal. I have included a 4 page note taking guide in this folder with the key.

8. WWII Video Analysis: This is where the students will get to watch videos regarding the war and learn what happened from watching the videos.

9. WWII Map: I have included this WWII Map showing how Hitler took over Europe. It is not an assignment but it does a fantastic job of showing how he took control slowly throughout Europe. I am not sure where I got this but I use it every year.

10. Story of US WWII: This is another great resource that sums up the American experience in WWII. The video is not available on youtube but it is on Amazon Prime. I have included the long version and the short version of this guide.

11. Mankind Story of all of US:
Here is what is included:
- A question sheet in WORD format that will keep the students following along.
- Answers to the question sheet
- A set of notes that can be referenced for a discussion following the video.
-BONUS: History Channel Mankind Story of US Guide

This 12th episode is good for either junior high or high school as it deals with NEW FRONTIER, Farming, Alcan Highway, Atomic Bomb, heart transplant and Selma 1965 I think this episode would work well with either Jr. High or High school.

The end of the Civil War allows Mankind to go into overdrive. This is an age of innovation, transformation and mass production. People believe that "Anything, everything, is possible." Japan goes from feudal society to industrial superpower within 50 years. But progress has its dark side. The demand for rubber devastates Africa. And the desire to build bigger, faster, better leads to a titanic disaster…Mankind takes on godlike powers: to feed billions of people, reshape the landscape, re-engineer the human body. The greatest power of all was unleashed over Hiroshima on August 6th 1945. Since entering the Atomic Age we've been living between eternity and oblivion. But at the same time, we've become more connected as a species. 100,000 years ago there were a few thousand hunter-gatherers on the African savannah. Today there are 7 billion of us in every corner of the globe. It's been an amazing journey.

CRASH COURSE SAMPLE

Here is what is included in this 6 page download:

1. Note Taking Guide for Students: This is essentially a blank section to take notes in.

2. Summary of the Video: A place for the students to write a short summary of what they have watched.

3. Teacher Notes from the: My 1 page of notes.

**Also, I highly recommend having the students watch this on .5 speed. If you click the wheel on the bottom of the youtube video you can adjust the speed.

Additional things I like to do with WWII:
1. I will listen to Jennifer Burns US History podcast from Berkley.
2. I will also include a WWII DBQ for the students to work on outside of class.
3. I will try and bring in a guest speaker from WWII, although that is getting more difficult as they are passing away.
4. The last resource I like to use is that of the Primary source Stanford University lessons. You will have to create a log in to use their plans but they are really good.

Stanford University Educational Resources

13. Tests and Quizzes - I put all of my quizzes and tests that I use for this unit with keys.

14. Paragraph Prompts – These some good ideas to have your students write about during the course of the year. They are apart of my free download that is in my store.

15. Flipped Notes Sheet – Students would rather go through a presentation by themselves and ask questions about it after. For this unit I get the students going on the intro to WWII and then let them go through the rest of the PPT by themselves. I then have the students talk about things with each other and then meet back with me for any further questions.

16. WWII Notes – These are for both the students and the teacher. There are 6 different pages of notes to help the students understand things a little more clearly.
