Product Description
This World War Two: American Slang #1 Crossword Puzzle contains three versions of the puzzle for differentiation. One version has a word bank, one version does not, and the other version scrambles the letters of the words in the word bank. The answer key is also included. This puzzle is great as a vocabulary builder, review, or enrichment learning activity for any World War Two unit. It is also easy to use with a substitute teacher. This puzzle includes 32 slang and military terminology used by American military men and women during the war such as: AWOL, Chump, Blanket Drill, Ratzy, Sparky, Cackle Fruit, V-Mail, etc. WARNING: Please be aware that this puzzle also includes a few terms that would be considered racial slurs today (Frog, Jap, Chink, Chink Berries). This makes a great discussion point about the language of war and the dehumanization of the enemy (and allies), and I recommend preparing your students before giving them this crossword puzzle.
