“Would you rather?” games are a great way to introduce students to argumentative/opinion writing and developing their first opinion sentences. Using the "Would you rather?" prompt, like "Would you rather be a shark or a lion?", students first develop an opinion sentence (e.g., I would like to be a lion.) and can then be challenged to use the word "because" to add one supporting reason (e.g., I would like to be a lion because they are the king of the jungle.). This pack includes 42 student appropriate prompts that will be sure to get your students excited about argumentative writing. Depending on grade level and student ability, prompts can be used for oral discussions or for writing.
