This presentation is designed to get your students up and moving while they enhance their understanding of integers. Each slide contains a real scenario and students walk to one side of the room to indicate whether they believe the written number would be positive or negative.
I often have students pair share to justify where they went and then have a few students tell me their partner's justification.
This is a great way to minimize behavior problems and increase engagement.
My students stand behind their chairs. Sometimes I read the scenario aloud, at other times groups or all students do. Then, I say go and they move to one side. I set a timer for 30 seconds to 1 minute. When it goes off I have a few students share justifications. We come to a consensus and then I say, "Reset," which means that all students quickly and quietly return to their seats.
