The hardest part about getting students to write in a way that meets standards is dragging details out of them! This is designed to be a PowerPoint that you can project (or print as a flashcard type activity) and allow students time to write, then share as a class or evaluate their work after a period of time.
Instructions and modeling are included to guide students through how to respond. Since they have to pick one "would you rather," they will get practice taking a firm stance in response to a prompt and then providing details to back up their opinion! To quirky or weird prompts, students don't hesitate to give reasons - they automatically pick out the who/what/when/where/why details. Let them warm up with these and get confident in those skills before daunting writing prompts.
**This series of Would You Rather writing prompts has an Autumn theme for seasonal-themed writing. While most are weather or trend related, a few are holiday themed, so if your school does not encourage Halloween or Thanksgiving activities, you can skip those. There are thirty slides, so you still have plenty to choose from.
