* This project is for advanced coordinate graphing students.
* Knowledge of fractions is a must: 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4 for this project.

This coordinate graphing project is fun for the student and makes a great bulletin board idea as well. This project is great for studying the history of flight. Students will put their knowledge of coordinate systems, coordinate graphing and ordered pairs to work creating a drawing of the Wright Brothers Plane. This will be created by plotting ordered pairs and then connecting them with straight lines.

This project is for the advanced coordinate graphing student. The graph consists of points in the first quadrant using ordered pairs with whole numbers and many fractional points using the fractions 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4. There are also many points in which both the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate contain fractions. When finished, they can use markers, colored pencils or other medium to enhance the project. This project is great for a holiday bulletin board display.

Coordinate graph paper for plotting (with both a light and a dark grid), a coordinate list, a full sized answer key and a sample of the completed project in color.

CCSS.Math.Content.5.G.A.1 Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).
