Wringer is one of my favorite read alouds. A former colleague introduced the book to me in 2012 and I have been reading and studying the book with my fifth graders ever since. One of the fantastic and fascinating aspects of studying this book is that, unlike many other books, very few of my students have ever heard of it, let alone READ it. The wonderful thing is that they absolutely love it.
I created this lesson for my students to help them practice identifying problems and predicting possible solutions. Please use this lesson to help your students brainstorm and propose plausible solutions to a character’s problems.
All of the lessons I have developed for Wringer are aligned with both Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs). They have been meticulously planned and have been successfully taught. If you would like to study the novel, Wringer, this is for YOU.
