A great visual reminder that you should treat people kindly!
At the beginning of the year, hold up a construction paper heart and tell children that we all start our like this heart. Ask children if they have ever heard someone say something unkind. As children share their responses, fold or wrinkle the heart for each one to represent the unkind words.
Discuss how feelings might get hurt and how we can say something kind to make the person feel better. Ask student to share kind words/comments. With each kind comment, unfold or start to unwrinkle the heart. When all the wrinkles are unfolded, show children that you can still see the wrinkles in the heart from things people have said or did and that these will always be there. Keep the heart in your class all year long to remind children of this.
This idea was shared with me and I thought it was wonderful and would make a great visual and share it with you!
