This is the first edition of the Write and Infer with Picture of the Day K-2 product brought to you From room 123.
It is a great way for students to utilize their critical thinking skills to observe, analyze pictures and make inferences. This is essential for reading development. These photos will give students an opportunity to practice these skills without worries about difficult text and reading levels. This make these activities perfect for differentiation.
As students study each picture, give them several minutes to do a close observation in an effort to analyze the text. This will allow them to pay close attention to key details which will support the conclusions they will draw and inferences they will make.
Note to teachers:
I use this as a weekly assessment for my students. These are my personal photos for classroom use only. I use photos in our daily reading lessons and teach my students how to “read” a picture. We discuss details of what is happening and talk about how to draw conclusions based on a “snapshot” in time.
I have included the cards I use to help provide leading questions. This is beneficial early on in the year and as students become more proficient, they are less necessary. I do however have them available all year for my ELL, EC and any students that arrive in my class
