This is a fun monthly writing project that can be used in early intermediate classrooms throughout the year. Students write a friendly letter to their families each month, explaining memorable things they did in school. Parents respond to the students using a separate friendly letter template. At the end of the year, students have a special keepsake of their entire year!
I create a Write Night Journal for each student using a pocket folder with prongs. I print the cover letter and slide it into a sheet protector. Then I fill their folders with alternating letter templates, starting with the student letter followed by the parent response. You can have older students add their letters as they go, or prepare the entire journal at the start of the year.
The letter template has proven to be a great resource for early intermediate students who are still practicing using this format.
