“Tacky the Penguin” is always a huge hit in my first grade classroom.
Hawaiian shirts, silly songs, and tender messages about accepting the
“odd birds” among us- what’s not to love?!
Kids love to come up with their own wacky Tacky adventures in this
writing activity. I usually do this with my kids after we’ve read 3-4 Tacky
books together, so students have a feel for the style of these stories.
When I model during our “brainstorming” sessions, I remind students that Tacky always manages to solve his problems by being his usual “Tacky” self! They come up with some really creative problems and even zanier solutions for Tacky and his friends. This is one of my favorite writing activities every year- and the same usually goes for my students, too! There's also a bonus graphic organizer- "Write 3 things you would do with Tacky if you got to spend a day with him."
This resource includes 4 graphic organizers and 2 styles of writing
paper- one primary-lined, and one single- lined. Both styles have spaces for pictures, and I included another sheet for each with only lines that you can copy for those students who love to write, write, write! You'll also find all the templates you need to create an adorable Tacky craft. Click "preview" for a closer look!
