Use this writing fairytale packet as the drafting piece of the writing process to guide your students to write their own fairytale book.
The packet is divided by the elements of a fairytale:
• Good Character
• Bad Character / evil plan
• Universal Truth
Students will choose a universal truth to convey through their story. They will then create good and evil characters based on their prior knowledge of character traits. Students then choose a setting based on their prior knowledge of fairytale settings. Afterwards, students create a basic outline of their fairytale using their prior knowledge of a fairytale sequence to use to write their fairytale in the provided graphic organizer.
Their story can be rewritten in any format. In my class, we write it on Japanese rice paper and present it as a scroll. They illustrate their scroll and we create stamps of the characters during art. The result is a masterpiece.
