Product Description
If you and your students aren't already using Goodreads, you should be! It's like social media for books. https://www.goodreads.com/
Each quarter my students read 500 pages, and I give assignments such as this to hold them accountable for their independent reading.
For this assignment they must write an 8 sentence review and post it on goodreads.

-book review exemplar (Jason Reynolds' "When I was the Greatest"--though I certainly recommend you write your own!)
-sentence starters to help students write their review
-copy of the googleclassroom assignment itself

-Before class: familiarize yourself with goodreads and make an account
-Day 1:
+ get students hyped about goodreads and show them its general features
+ have them create their own account (**note: goodreads does NOT require an email confirmation, which means that students can have a typo and then never be able to access the account again...be cafeful!)
+ have students add 5 plus books they've already read and 5 plus books they want to read
+ have students "friend" each other and you

-Before class: distribute assignment via googleclassroom
-Day 2:
+go over exemplar as a class
+students write and post review

+encourage students to download the app
+give students time throughout the year to update their goodreads--adding books they've read or want to

-alternative assessment
-authentic audience
-makes literacy social
-makes space for student voice
