I use this activity as a fun way for the students to be up and moving while practicing their handwriting skills as well as well as a beginning sounds activity.
I hang the cards all over the room(at the beginning of the year I will put the ones with the letters on them around to practice with writing and recognition. Second semester I will replace those with the pictures only so that they can practice their beginning sound skills). I then give the students the worksheet with the pictures on it and a clip board to write on and tell them that they have to match the pictures together to find out what letter goes in the box. Once they have found the matching pictures they are to write the letter that is on the card on the worksheet. For the cards with no letters I tell them that they must identify the sound that that picture begins with and write that in the box. This is a fun way for them to practice writing their letters and an informal way for me to assess what letters they know how to form and which letters we need to work on some more, and the same with the beginning sounds.
