Whenever we do write the room, my students are so engaged! They love scrambled sentences as well, so putting the two together equals super student engagement!
There are two ways you can do this activity:
1- Tape each set of cards (with the same picture) to a spot in your room. Example: Tape all the fire fighter cards to the classroom door, all the teacher cards to the whiteboard, etc. Students will choose a picture from their recording sheet and then walk around the room looking for the words that match that picture. They will decide which order will make a sentence that makes sense and record it. Encourage students to reread their sentence once they have written it in order.
2- Place all word cards in a baggie or container. Students will sort the cards by picture. They will then manipulate one set of cards (with the same picture) to create a sentence that makes sense. Once they finish, they will record their sentence and reread it.
I have included a set (6 sentences in each set) with and without number clues to differentiate for your class. You will also find an 'I can' chart to remind students what to do, word cards, and writing prompt papers to extend this center.

RF.1.1a- Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word, capitalization, ending punctuation).
RF.1.3g Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
