Write the Room! Write the room is a great activity for your kinesthetic learners. They get to be up, moving about the classroom as they find and record word family words. So engaging!
This packet contains write the room for 4 short a word families: -ap, -at, -ad, and -an.
Students find a picture in the room, and read the word below it. They then record the word next to the matching picture on the recording sheet. Note: There are two identical versions of the activities inside. In one, the pictures act as placeholders on the worksheet and do not match the words. This allows students to decode the word rather than just "read" the picture. If you are concerned that the pictures may be confusing to your students, I have also included a numbered version.
There are two levels of write the room work in this packet. This allows you to move your class from simple to more in-depth work, or to differentiate the word family activity. In Level 1, students find the words and decide if each word is a part of the given word family. In Level 2, students read each word and decide if it is a real or nonsense word before recording it.
