Write the Room for First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade

This pack includes lots of ways to make working with words fun!

You can use these activities with ANY WORDS- sight words, spelling words, Word Wall words, etc.

Students will participate actively in searching and finding words in your classroom that correspond with the set criteria. Students can look on posters, charts, in classroom library books, the Word Wall…anywhere in the classroom!

The activities will provide students with practice in reading, writing, and word work.

PART ONE:

The first section of Write the Room activities involves students searching for words that contain specific spelling patterns:

• digraphs
• blends
• prefixes
• suffixes
• long vowels
• short vowels
• y as a vowel

• contractions

PART TWO:

This section of Write the Room activities involves students recording their words in a fun and engaging way, using various writing tools including

• highlighters
• magazine letters

• and more!

PART THREE:

This section of Write the Room activities involves students recording their words in a specific way, including

• alphabetical order
• by number of syllables
• by type of word
• by the number of letters in the word
• and more!

PART FOUR:

This section of Write the Room activities involves students using the words in a practical way. This includes

• using words in a sentence
• composing a story
• illustrating the words
• and more!
