We are constantly helping our students with reading fluency. Writing fluency is just as important.
I build writing fluency with my students through Page Writes. After getting WW up and running, I introduce my expectations for a page write. Students are given a topic to write about, a time limit is set and students must write for the duration of time. We model this together several times before they work on their own. As the year progresses, I increase the amount of time for a page write. Of course, we try to have some time to share.
Another FAVORITE way to work on writing fluency is to give students a bin of pictures from magazines, newspapers, photos you've taken, etc. They can glue those pics into their journal and write! They have so much fun with this! I adjust my bin of pics based on our current curriculum. Ex: If we are working on animals in Science, I add a lot of fun pictures of different types of animals.
