I made these labels to use instead of the red and green dots that are suggested in Lucy Calkins' Writer's Workshop books. I like the idea of using hands instead of dots. Also, I like to use words so my students learn how to read them. Basically, if you use a three-pronged folder for students to store their writing, one side of the folder is used to store the pieces of writing that they have finished. This is where the green hand/"Done" label goes. The other side is used to store pieces that students haven't finished. That's where the red hand/"Wait" labels go.
To print them on labels, you will need to purchase Avery Laser Ink Jet Shipping Labels number 48863. They are 2"x 4" and there are 10 per sheet.
Otherwise, print on regular paper. Cut and secure in the folder with tape.
The font came from Kimberly Geswein's site and is called KG Lego House. The clipart came from the web.
