Implementing writing workshop empowers and excites young writers. The trouble can be knowing how to inspire them with engaging mini-lessons before setting them off on their merry writing way. This package focuses on grammar mini-lessons. These lessons provide a focus for students so they may improve grammar and conventions in their independent work. The lessons are designed for students to apply proper grammar in their own writing.
This package includes mini-lessons for teaching grammar within any writing genre. The lessons are in a slideshow format so you can display slides during your lesson, and also print the pages and add them to your writing wall. This package includes 40 grammar lessons. They may be taught in the order I have created them, or you can choose the lessons in order of students’ greatest needs. No more than 10 minutes should be spent each day on mini-lessons. You may choose to do 2 mini-lessons per week, or 5 mini-lessons per week.
My purpose in creating this package was two-fold: take the mystery implementing grammar into writing, and make the best out of every grammar mini-lesson with students. My students love our grammar mini-lessons and learning how to improve their work. Writers Workshop gives students the opportunity to be imaginative risk-takers.
Lessons include: capitalization, nouns, possessive nouns, verbs, verb tenses, types of sentences, sentence fragments, sentence run-ons, conjunctions, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, commas, quotation marks, semi-colon, colon, dash, adjectives, adverbs, interjections, paragraphing, then vs. than, our vs. are, it’s vs. its, there/they’re/their, to/too/two, you’re vs. your, and who’s vs. whose. Please note that this package does not include worksheets or printables, though slides can be printed and displayed as anchor posters.
