Thank you for checking out my Writer’s Workshop: How-To Writing unit! I used this in my first grade classroom and found that over the course of the unit, students began to really understand how to write different steps, organize their thoughts, and also the importance of adding details into their books. Students found this unit to be a lot of fun and enjoyed reading their peers’ stories too! Please make sure you read through all of the information before looking at the lessons, as it will really help you!
These 12 lessons help students with the following skills:
Writing a how-to, step-by-step book
Using sequencing words to indicate order of steps
Writing specific directions that anyone can understand and follow
Writing a lead that 'hooks' the reader
Writing an interesting closing
This unit is also a great introduction to my Informative Writing Unit:

The unit also includes revision and editing checklists and paper templates for you to use in your classroom. Check out the preview to see more!
