Writer's Workshop introduces writing in a developmentally appropriate way. It's also a great way to integrate L. Arts common standards on a daily basis. Each lesson uses the Gradual Release Model (scaffolding approach) (I Do, We Do, and You Do). It's a successful approach which begins with the teacher delivering instruction in a whole group setting and then gradually moves instruction to student-centered collaboration and then finally to independent practice.
Immersion, the first stage of writing, is introduced in this unit. In the second unit, Getting Started Unit 2: Labels and Lists, the entire stages of writing is introduced. Immersion, Generating Ideas, Selecting an Idea, Drafting, Revision, Editing, and Publishing are introduced.
