Thank you so much for checking out Writer’s Workshop: Narrative Fiction Writing! This unit was used and developed with the inspiration of Lucy Calkins. This unit is intended to help students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th write realistic fiction narratives.
These narrative fiction lessons help students with the following skills:
How to write a realistic narrative fiction story based on something that happened in real life.
-How to develop believable characters.
-How to create a character’s motivation and struggles.
-How to plot a story using a story mountain.
-How to show and not tell using descriptive words.
-How to write scenes from summaries.
-How to use mentor texts to strengthen their characters and scenes.
-How to write effective story leads and endings.
-How to re-read their stories in order to make revisions.
-How to re-read their stories to effectively edit their writing.
There are 14 lesson plans included, although this unit will likely take about a month to fully complete, as certain lessons will need to be revisited, depending on the needs of your students.
