This 3-4 week unit breaks down each step in the writing process with daily activities to assist the students in building their own personal narrative. You can use this process in writers notebooks or as a packet. The process takes students from immersion in day one to publishing with a publishing party.
Short stories for immersion are not included by suggested. You can use any story you have read in a reading unit as a mentor text. I highly suggest it, in fact, because the students are already familiar with the story, and you can look at it in a new light (as a writer!).
