Thank you so much for checking out Writer’s Workshop: Narrative Fiction Writing! This unit was used and developed with the inspiration of Lucy Calkins. This unit is intended to help students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th write realistic fiction narratives.
These narrative fiction lessons help students with the following skills:
-How to write a realistic narrative fiction story based on something that happened in real life.
-How to write a personal narrative based on a turning point or significant event.
-How to outline a beginning, middle, and end.
-How to write scenes from summaries, and strengthen these scenes with details and dialogue.
-How to write a narrative with a deeper meaning.
-How to write an effective lead.
-How to write in the narrator’s perspective.
-How to add internal and external parts to the story.
-How to develop story mountains.
-How to write endings that resolve the main problem.
-How to re-read their stories in order to make revisions.
-How to re-read their stories to effectively edit their writing
There are 15 lesson plans included, although this unit will likely take about a month to fully complete, as certain lessons will need to be revisited, depending on the needs of your students.
