This is my most effective way to keep track of where students are with their writing in writer's workshop. I have tried many methods: digitally, notebooks, binders with student tabs, and post-its. Flipping or swiping through all of those methods was time consuming and cumbersome. Too much space to write often slowed me down. I created this resource to bring myself back to the 5 minute conference. It is a great visual to let me know whether I've gotten to each student in a week. This is meant to be copied back-to-back then put on a clipboard as you walk around and conference. When you are done, keep them there or put them in a folder/binder. It becomes a necessary resource for documentation for meetings and report cards.
Each box has a spot to record student name, what they are working on, what you are teaching them and next steps. This is all you need for your 5 minute conference.
