I always found it difficult teaching students how to summarize literature. For the most part, I received summaries that were too short, or I had the 3 page summary that was longer than the actual text! I stressed how important it was to just "sum up" or "write about the important parts", but the students could never really figure out what the important parts really were. (And maybe I didn't really understand it completely either!)
I found this technique using an internet search where I came across hundreds of anchor charts using this strategy. I thought I would make a graphic organizer to implement in my room. I have been using it in my classroom, and I am so pleased with the results!
I hope this helps your students too. Please leave feedback to let me know how it goes!
