This handout covers the following aspects of writing about literature:

----Creating and punctuating the title

----Providing the title of work(s) and author(s)

----Addressing the author

----Tense

----Providing short quotations for poetry and prose

----Creating block quotations for poetry and prose

----Blending quotes into one’s own discourse

----Clarifying or adapting quotes

----Ellipses

----Periods, commas, dashes, semicolons, colons

----Pronouns, contractions, etc. (technicalities of formal writing)

I provide examples for most of the rules.

The format is clear.

Each rule is in a different colored block (light so that you can print in grayscale if you prefer).
