Product Description
These two activities help students understand the stages that people go through after facing a tragedy, especially a loss. The two activities can be used together or you could just do one or the other with your students. The first activity helps students understand some terminology dealing with tragedy-this can be done as a writing assignment or small group discussion activity. The second activity is more a creative writing assignment with various topics to choose from.

This activity works well if your students have recently lost a classmate or teacher or well-known community member. But is also works well as an introduction to a story or novel in which the protagonist faces a personal tragedy, such as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Ellen Foster, The Outsiders, etc.
