Product Description
This is the second lesson in the unit entitled Equations. This lesson begins with a warm up to reinforce the Order of Operations from the day before. Then, there is an activity included where students are given cards with algebraic phrases on them to place in buckets that are labeled with the the four basic operations of arithmetic as well as equals. As a class, we sort through the bucket entries and record the key words or phrases that represent the four arithmetic operations as well as equals on the note sheet. Students are encouraged to share different terms that they think of that are not found on the note cards. After this activity, students move on to translating some algebraic expressions with a partner and once those expressions are complete and we've reviewed them as a group, there is a follow up activity students complete as well that I collect as an informal assessment (an exit card).
