What educators are saying

I love using these templates in the classroom. I use them in centers and as independent work. I love that the students read the sentences , rewrite them and draw a picture to match.
My students have enjoyed using this product during centers time or as a "may do". The scaffolding is embedded making it easier for students to complete independently.

    Description

Teachers, do you need a quick way to check your students' reading comprehension for decodable sentences? These writing template pages for a writing center are awesome at practicing writing, checking sentences, and illustrating. These are short sentences using pre-primer and primer words and short vowel words.

Kinders and firsties will be able to easily read each of these sentences. First, they practice writing the sentence in their best handwriting. Then, they draw a picture to match the sentence. This checks their comprehension of short sentences. These sheets take less than 15 minutes and are GREAT for morning work practice or to put in a writing center as an option.

    The routine:

    • Name
    • Date
    • Read sentence.
    • Trace sentence.
    • Write sentence on your own.
    • Illustrate picture to match the sentence.
    • Go through checklist.

I also allow my students to get a friend to check it before I look at it. This gives them another chance to look at and read a sentence. They go through the checklist once more to make sure the sentence is correct.

The mixed set includes: 50 sentences (full page and 2/page)

    Short a: 28 sentences

    Short e: 20 sentences

    Short i: 20 sentences

    Short o: 20 sentences

    Short u: 12 sentences
