What are Writing Circles?
In writing circles, students write collaboratively to document their learning on a particular topic. Groups of students name their writing circle and choose their group’s writing topic. Students write on this topic, using any format or genre. Students get the choice back in writing while developing needed skills.
In my middle school classroom, I use writing circles daily as a collaborative writing strategy. Peer collaboration in writing has shown to be effective in
learning to write, as well as writing to learn.
