I designed this graphic organizer for my AP Language students when we're working early in the year and focusing on the need to remember the audience when we write. I quickly realized how valuable this tool could be for all my students.
We often give our students an audience to write for; we tell them to think about their audience, but this organizer really asks them to think deeply about how their audience will respond to their writing choices.
I have included two sample responses as models to provide a clear picture of how these can be used for any writing activity, or level of students. I have used this with 10 graders and advanced students with great results. Just vary the amount of scaffolding depending on the needs of your students.
