This writing or pre-writing checklist is a great way to have your students generate ideas and plan their stories before they start writing! Using this handy acronym will help provide students with direction for their writing.
This is an acronym your students will never forget! I use the F.A.R.T.S. acronym with my grade fives to remind them of the important decisions they need to make for each piece of writing they do. I usually start our introductory lesson by dropping their own copy of the checklist on each desk...then I wait a few minutes for them to stop howling. It's super fun and super useful, a win-win!
I have included full and half-page versions of the checklist in colour and black and white. One version is subtitled "Pre-Writing Checklist" and another is titled simply "Writing Checklist". Black-and-white quarter-page checklists are provided as well for both subtitles. Additionally, I have included four pages of writing paper; two of them feature a F.A.R.T.S checklist at the bottom.
