This is a choice board for reading and writing. It could be used for homework as well-- in order to build writing stamina. The student chooses from the board in order to get Tic-Tac-Toe (4 in a row). I have incorporated Common Core prompts that require no particular text in order to support this activity. I am using this in my ELA workshop model, either in my reading or writing block. This way, I can have 4 or 5 rotations total set up for the week. Each day (Monday through Thursday) a student can choose one of the writing activities. If set up and started on a Monday, small groups/students have an activity for 4 days (4 rotations). On the 5th day or as a review/extra activity you can ask students to go back and underline all of the prepositions, revise/edit each writing piece, or add details such as adjectives or adverbs. The students can also have a partner conference to revise and edit. A culminating activity idea could be to have students share their writing pieces with a partner or whole group. You could also continue to use it for 'blackout' style tic-tac-toe.
