Students are put in groups of 4-5 and for four weeks work together in writing circles. Each week a new genre is presented to students to focus on a specific writing skill (ex. business letters to narrow the topic, articles for organization, voice in poetry, and paragraph structure in biographies). Space is provided for students to take notes, are given time to create a rough copy of their writing before sharing with their writing circle for peer editing which is also recorded. On the final week, students choose one piece of writing to finish and present in good copy.
