Writing circles are a group of writers who work and learn together to help each other improve in writing. This Writing Circles activity is a great starting point for emerging and fluent, confident writers alike. This product introduces the process of Writing Circles through a PowerPoint that has teacher specific notes on each slide. Your students will learn using the I do, We do, You do model. Through writing circles your students will naturally and effortlessly begin to experiment with different elements of literature such as point of view, conflict, voice, mood, tone, dialogue, figurative language, setting, and theme. Prompted with stunning visuals your students will engage in meaningful, timed writing and share their work with a small circle of writers. They will share their stories and receive structured positive feedback from their peers.
Once your students have learned the basics of Writing Circles, they can embark on a creative writing journey that requires little to no effort from you. Your students will benefit from writing their stories, reading their stories, receiving feedback for their stories, and listening to the writing of others. Through this practice, your entire classroom will come to enjoy and look forward to creative, authentic writing.
