Writing and comparing fractions has championship appeal in these activities.
In the first activity, the students will write the correct fractions for each team, then use those fractions to compare and order certain teams.
In the next two activities, they will find equivalent fractions as they solve a puzzle. The students will cut out the squares and match the sides to complete the grid.
This versatile activity could be a partner activity, individual activity, center, fun assessment or homework. The students are to cut out squares and find the matching sides. All sides will match when complete. It is a puzzle that takes strategy and knowledge of the concept. It has two separate sheets. One is a smaller board (4x4) with equivalent fractions up to twelfths. The other is a larger board (5x5) with a few equivalent fractions up to twenty fourths. All sides of the cube will match up. As they go, they will begin to use the hints, like edges and corners, to use strategies and help them finish the puzzle.
