Build sentence fluency in your students' writing with this practice activity in which they will choose a subordinating conjunction to create an adverbial clause.
A presentation for you to project on your whiteboard will review the grammar terms, including example simple and complex sentences, dependent clauses, and a mnemonic to help remember the subordinating conjunctions.
Provide a mini anchor chart for students to use as they practice and to keep in their interactive notebooks for future reference.
Each task card provides two clauses that students must combine using an appropriate conjunction to write a complex sentence. Task cards are available in colorful fall themes or low ink black and white. To build critical thinking skills and creativity, have students compare their sentences with a partner (because multiple correct sentences are possible for most clause pairs) or challenge them to create as many different sentences as they can with a given task card.
