Build sentence fluency in your students' writing with this practice activity in which they will combine given clauses by choosing a subordinating conjunction.
A presentation for you to project on your whiteboard will review the grammar terms, including an example complex sentence for each type of subordinating conjunction.
Provide a mini anchor chart with the mnemonic ON A WHITE BUS list of conjunctions for students to use as they practice and to keep in their interactive notebooks for future reference.
Each card provides two clauses that students must combine using a subordinate conjunction to write a complex sentence. To build critical thinking skills and creativity, have students compare their sentences with a partner (because multiple correct sentences are possible for most clause pairs) or challenge them to create as many different sentences as they can with a given task card.
