Castles, Dragons, Kings, The Queen, Knights, Jousters! This project is a way to make the writing process FUN! Designed to make the writing process accessible for struggling writers - this is the perfect activity to engage students and work on writing skills! Project is most appropriate for 2nd through 5th grade. Designed by Jan McCleskey, MA, OTR from The Handwriting Clinic - this activity also has cued notebook paper to teach handwriting sizing and legibility skills as students generalize skills to the composing/creativity stage of writing.
Davy the Dragon is a lazy, unmotivated, scared little dragon. His job is to protect the castle. Davy is doing a poor job of protecting the castle and the king is exacerbated! Then the unthinkable happens: The evil king from the North attacks the castle! Davy is called to duty to protect the castle, the kings family, and the kingdom. Students will design a story board for the setting using printables. They can cut out and glue the characters, the castle, the knights and jousters, etc. They can draw grass and scenery for their setting.
Next, the students will use the templates to organize their story into the setting, character, supporting characters, character traits, problem, climax, plot, conclusion and ending conclusion sentence. Many templates are complete with word banks to encourage use of descriptive or transition words.
Finally, the students will write their story about how Davy the Dragon saves the day! Included in this activity, is printable notebook paper with cued sizing - to teach students how to write with correct sizing and legibility.
FUN! CREATIVE! HANDS ON! ENGAGING!
