If your students struggle to write dialogue correctly, this 3 day unit is for you! First students will receive a handout that will remind them of The Rules for Writing Dialogue, followed by practice questions and a place for them to Practice Writing Dialogue (answer key included).

The next day the students will pair up in groups of 2-3 and participate in the Pasta Punctuation Activity. In my class this activity is a timed contest, but that is up to you.

Lastly, included is a Final Assessment with 25 missing punctuation marks. There is also a modified assessment that gives a correctly quoted sentence as well as the number of punctuation marks that need to be fixed in each sentence. Then the students are prepared for any narrative writing assignment for the rest of the school year.

This Resource Includes:

  • About This Activity - notes to the teacher
  • Rules for Writing Dialogue worksheet
  • Practice Writing Dialogue worksheets with Answer Key
  • Making Punctuation Marks picture
  • Pasta Punctuation Activity with Answer Key
  • Assessment with Answer Key
