This project gives students a picture of a Jack O'Lantern made from 2 circles and 16 lines. Students are asked to write the equations and their domains/Ranges that will reproduce the picture. Then they are asked to make their own picture and provide the equations for their picture as well. Students will work in groups of 2 to complete the project.
This project includes 5 different pictures so that groups will have a unique set of equations to write.
Possible Technology Extension: Students could be asked to use Geometer's Sketchpad, graphing calculators or other technology to produce their picture electronically. This could be used as a lead into piecewise functions.
Prerequisite skills: Domain, range, writing equations of lines, writing equations of circles.
Rubric Included. Answer key will come later.
