Keeping Writing Fun- Calling All Fairy Tale Writers!
Writing helps children dive into imaginations and pull up amazing ideas and stories. In this book children write about dragons, rescuers, castles, fairylands, and magical powers. Through story creation, children travel to magical places, problem-solve how to get a character out of narrow escapes, and act out brave deeds to save the day. Sometimes kids think writing is dull work. That is because they often aren’t encouraged to write for fun. This book ensures writing is engaging and full of fairy tale adventures and wishes come true.
For those seeking Common Core State Standard correlations, each of the writing activities is aligned with the CCSS writing standards. Some of the most common standards addressed are:
1. W.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
2. W.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
3. W.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
4. W.10 Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
These activities also meet the objectives of supporting children to be joyful creators, an important aspect of a well-rounded education.
