I created this activity after finding that many of my students were having extreme difficulty writing about various topics in my classroom. In particular, the students were struggling with comparing and contrasting, summarizing, sharing opinions and arguments, and describing. I created these as “disposable crutches” for my students – that is, a way to help give them a frame for writing in my classroom. They are an effective way to get students writing in the Social Studies classroom, especially as we move towards the Common Core Standards. This activity is aligned to the Common Core.
Lastly, I have included samples that my students have written using the writing frames. This activity is ready to use! Enjoy!
