Product Description
This chart organizes over 40 possible writing genres (such as a Setting Sketch, Analysis of a Poem, Retelling of a Legend, Persuasive Letter, Parody, and so on) by level of difficulty (easy, intermediate, advanced). It also groups these genres into larger genre-categories (essay writing, narrative writing, poetry, etc.). When planning your year, you can choose how your writing assignments will progress, and scaffold them accordingly. For example, once students have completed a simple setting sketch, they will be more prepared to write an autobiographical account. In addition, you can use this chart to differentiate within your classroom. For example, when the whole class is assigned poetry writing, some students could work on an ode (easier), while others try a sonnet (more difficult). This chart can act as a compass to your writing instruction.
